Polycarbonate
Lenses
Shatterproof Polycarbonate lenses are optically
correct for zero distortion to provide outstanding
optical performance and enhanced vision in any
lighting condition. Polycarbonate is the newest
development in lens materials. It is a type of
LEXAN® from G.E., the same material used for
bullet resistant glass in autos. It is such hard
material that a special diamond grinding wheel
must be used to cut the lens. To form the glasses
the material is melted and then force injected
into a special mold. The Polycarbonate material
is naturally UV absorbing, so even the clear lenses
are 100% Ultraviolet protected. Polycarbonate
in certain glasses is actually approved for use
as safety glasses. Polycarbonate lenses are lightweight,
durable, impact-resistant and the most scratch-resistant
of the plastics. They are virtually break proof.
Polycarbonate eyewear is the only approved eye
protection for most major Police & Fire Departments.
Lens Tints and Coatings
Smoked & Gray
The most common type of lens color. Ideal for
bright light conditions without changing color
perception, making them a good choice for all-weather
use.
Amber & Brown
Especially good at blocking the blue light commonly
found in diffused light such as one might experience
on a cloudy day. Amber can improve both contrast
and depth perception, and is a good all-around
choice if you live in an area with changeable
weather patterns.
Yellow
Improves contrast and gives a sensation of heightened
visual acuity. Ideal for overcast days.
Clear
Untinted for low-light or nighttime eye protection.
Clear Mirrored
A clear lens with a flash mirror coating that
provides a one-way mirror. Good for bright and
low light conditions.
G-Tech
These high tech lenses have from 7 to 13 layers
of titanium dioxide and silica applied onto shatterproof
Polycarbonate Cleaning them is easy and they are
scratch resistant. They also provide total UV
protection and enhanced contrast with minimal
glare.
Anti Fog Coating
Anti-fog coatings provide extra resistance against
fog buildup and blurred vision.
Polarized
Lenses
Light reflected from surfaces like a flat
road or smooth water is generally horizontally
polarized. The horizontally polarized light is
blocked by the vertically oriented polarizers
in the lenses, resulting in a reduction in annoying
and sometimes dangerous glare. While ordinary
tinted lenses reduce brightness, only polarized
lenses eliminate glare. Polarization is achieved
by sandwiching a thin sheet of polarized film
between two layers of material. Polarized lenses
work well for boaters, fisherman, skiers, golfers,
bikers and joggers who require a clearer view
and the elimination of glare.
Photochromic
Lenses
These lenses are designed
to automatically adjust to the amount of ultraviolet
light (UV) that reaches the lens. The transmission
rate is the amount of visible light penetrating
the lens and reaching the eyes. The higher the
transmission rate the lighter the lens color.
Clear lenses have a transmission rate between
80-100% and typical smoke lenses have a transmission
rate between 8-18%. Photochromic lenses do
NOT get as dark as traditional smoke grey lenses.
The advantage of Photochromic lenses is that you
can wear your eyewear from morning into evening
and not have to have multiple sets of eyewear
with you or have to change your lenses throughout
the day.
Interchangeable Lens System
Interchangeable lenses provide options for all
lighting conditions. In most cases you use the
same frame and interchange the various lenses
to meet your varied light conditions. Darker lenses
for bright light conditions, Yellow or Amber lenses
for dawn/dusk or overcast conditions and Clear
lenses for nighttime.
UV
Protection
All of our eyewear provides the industry standard
UV 400 eye protection and is warranted by the
manufacturer to meet or exceed applicable US Government
standards for ultraviolet protection.
Foam
Padding
Many styles of the eyewear
you will find on our website come with foam padding.
The foam reduces wind flow, prevents debris from
getting into your eyes and reduces vibration.
There are three types of foam padding: open cell,
closed cell and neoprene.
Open Cell Foam tends to be lighter, softer
and more sweat absorbent than closed cell foam.
Open cell foam also can provide a better seal
or fit because its softer and conforms to the
contours of the face better.
Closed Cell Foam has low water absorption
making it more weather and chemical resistant.
It also provides some ventilation to reduce fogging
and can be more durable than open cell foam.
Neoprene Foam is
a flexible and durable sponge rubber that provides
good thermal and moisture insulation and form
fitting which is able to resist ozone, sunlight,
oxidation, many petroleum derivative and chemicals.
Venting
Systems
Venting Systems incorporate exhaust vents into lens and
frame designs to enhance airflow and virtually eliminate fog and condensation.
This design feature allows maximum ventilation while blocking extraneous incoming
light.
Nose
Grips
Nose grips create a non-slip grip that keeps sunglasses securely in place during
athletic activity. This self-adjusting material ensures a soft feel and custom
fit regardless of head shape or size.
Temples
/ Earstems
The temples on some models are curved to shadow
the contours of your head without putting pressure
on your temples. Some are then wrapped in a non-slip
material to ensure they stay securely and comfortably
on your head. This advanced anatomical design
ensures a secure fit with exceptional comfort.
Hints
If you're in and out of the sun constantly, like a delivery driver, a cord is
a must, or youll have to be putting your sunglasses away all the time. Don't
leave sunglasses with plastic frames on the dashboard of your car on a hot day.
You don't want your sunglasses to "melt" and lose their form.
Storage
It's always best to place your sunglasses in a case when you aren't wearing them.
Not only will it help in preventing them from becoming scratched, but it will
also protect them from accidentally breaking, like someone sitting on them. Avoid
placing your glasses without a case in your purse or pocket. Keys or combs can
easily scratch them.
Cleaning
Clean dust and lint from your lenses with a soft cloth. The best cloth to use
is a Micro Fiber cloth. Using a Micro Fiber Cloth will ensure that the lenses
do not become scratched.
